This five day safari takes you and your family on a swift tour of some of Tanzania's most remarkable wildlife viewing locations, staying in some family friendly lodges and taking in not only game drives but also optional cultural experiences as well. This safari includes game drives of up to five or six hours, so we advise it is suitable for children aged six and over.
Day One
Our driver guide will pick you up from Arusha, either an arrival airport or your place of residence, early in the morning at 07:00am. You will begin the approximately three hour drive to Ngorongoro Conservation Area, stopping on the way for a packed lunch with a view! Once you arrive at Ngorongoro you will descend the 600 meters down to the crater floor for a game drive (of a maximum 6 hours permitted in the Crater). The crater is famous for its large mammal populations. Look out for the rare black rhino, of which there are approximately twenty resident within the crater. You will see many elephant, most of which will be bulls - this is because females usually stay out of the Crater because of the high density of predators. You will leave the crater itself by 4pm and drive up to Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge, where you will settle in for a relaxing evening's dinner and stay.
Day Two
After an early breakfast you will jump in the vehicle and leave at about 8am, starting the scenic drive down to the Serengeti National Park. This four hour drive takes you through some breath-taking landscape and some excellent game viewing opportunities through the Ngorongoro Highlands. You and your family will arrive in Serengeti in the early afternoon, enjoying a game drive around the Seronera plains and a picnic lunch en route. Although predicting the movements of the famous wildebeest migration is not an exact science, you have an excellent chance of seeing this unforgettable spectacle in the southern plains at the right time of year. Look out for the 'big five' and don't forget to keep an eye out for the myriad smaller creatures and wildlife adventures which make each safari unique! You end the day by settling at Serengeti Sopa Lodge where you will have dinner and overnight.
Day Three
On the following day, you and your family will enjoy a full day of game drives in Serengeti. This morning we would recommend that you have an early start with a morning game drive, which gives you the chance to catch the nocturnal predators returning from hunting and animals waking up in early morning light. You then return to the lodge for breakfast before spending the rest of the day on further game drives. Once again you will spend the evening at Serengeti Sopa Lodge, on full-board.
Day Four
The following morning you will be departing the Serengeti, so you can either have an early prebreakfast game drive, returning for breakfast before departure, or simply get up, eat and head out for your game drive through Seronera plain en route to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and beyond. You will take a packed lunch with you and stop at any number of scenic locations for a wonderful relaxing meal time before continuing on to Karatu village after a great day's game driving and landscape viewing. This final evening of your safari you settle into Ngorongoro Farm House before a tasty dinner and a good nights sleep.
Day Five
On your last morning you will enjoy a leisurely breakfast then start the two and a half hour drive back to Arusha, taking with you a packed lunch . You may choose to stop briefly on the way to visit a Maasai village where you will experience their lifestyle, participate in their cultural activities and traditional dances. This activity is great for children and young people in particular, so if you would like to add it into your package please speak to your safari consultant for further info. Once you have finished at the Maasai boma you will leave the village head back to Arusha where you will be dropped either at your place of residence or at the relevant airport.
