Day One
On arriving at Arusha or Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), a transfer car will be waiting for you and your family to take you to Arumeru River Lodge in Arusha for your first night in Garden Chalet rooms, on bed and breakfast.
Day Two
After breakfast on your first exciting morning, our driver-guide will pick you up from Arumeru River Lodge at 07:00am and you will set off for the two hour journey to Lake Manyara National Park where you can start your first game drive, taking your packed lunch with you. Explore the lakeside where you will see thousands of lesser East African flamingos which make the lake look pink! This whole area is a photographer's paradise, with the Great Rift valley rising in the background and the open plains filled with wildlife below. In the afternoon you will visit a traditional Maasai boma (this word simply means dwelling). Take a look behind the scenes and experience their lifestyle with traditional dancing, visit Maasai hats, schools etc. You will also meet Elders, Moran (warriors) Maasai women and their children with full explanations into status and ranking within the family age groups. Finally you get back in the car and drive to your lodge, Ngorongoro Serena Lodge, where you will have dinner and overnight, on full board.
Day Three
After breakfast at 08:30hrs, you and the family will leave for an exciting game drive in Ngorongoro Crater. Descend the 600 meters down to the crater floor for a game drive, with picnic lunch. The crater is famous for its large mammal populations - keep an eye out for the elusive black rhino; there are around 23 in the crater. Most of the elephant you see will be bulls as females tend to avoid the area due to its having the highest predator density in Africa. Leave the crater before 4pm then return to Ngorongoro Serena Lodge. Spend the rest of the day relaxing at the lodge , swimming in the pool and enjoying your beautiful surroundings. You may also wish to add on an exciting walking safari around the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, giving the children the chance to stretch their legs and experience the bush up close and personal! Ask your safari consultant about this extra add on.
Day Four
Today you and your family will take the enjoyable drive through wonderful landscape and wildlife viewing areas from Ngorongoro Crater down into the Serengeti National Park. After breakfast the family will jump in the waiting vehicle and depart for the amazing drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. This trip includes a stop at Olduvai Gorge, the archaeological site where the footprints of early hominids were discovered by Dr Leakey in the sixties. There is a small interesting museum here and you can wander down into the gorge itself where the prints were discovered. Once you have seen the museum and the children have explored the site, you continue on a game drive through the Seronera Plains, ending at Mbuzi Mawe Tented Camp in the late afternoon, where you relax and have dinner. Go to sleep surrounded by the sounds of the African night!
Days Five and Six
You and your family have two full days to explore the Serengeti, with as many game drives as you like. On a game drive you can choose to take packed lunch with you for a full day game drive or just return to the camp for hot lunch. Although predicting the movements of the famous wildebeest migration is an inexact science, you have a good chance of seeing this unforgettable spectacle at this time of year, especially in the Western Corridor. Your family will be based at Mbuzi Mawe Tented Camp, on full-board.
Day Seven
This morning you wake the family to have an early breakfast then leave the Serengeti at 06:00am and drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to Arusha (you will have picnic lunch on the way). You will arrive at Arusha airport in good time to catch the 15:12 Precision Air flight to Zanzibar which arrives at 16:45hrs. A transfer car will be waiting for you on your arrival at Zanzibar airport and take you to Tembo Hotel in Stone Town. You will spend the night in a Prime Double room and a Family room with sea front balcony on bed and breakfast, allowing you to take lunch in different restaurants in Stone Town (flight tickets not included).
Day Eight and Nine
You now have two full days to enjoy Zanzibar. Stone Town offers a wealth of opportunities for sightseeing, shopping and relaxing on the beaches or by the pool in the hotel. You can also take a day trip out snorkelling on the reefs or visit the turtles on Prison Island. Speak to your safari consultant to arrange these extras in advance or simply decide once you are there what activities you would like to do.
Day Ten
On your final morning, a car will pick you up from the hotel at 07:30hrs and take you to Zanzibar airport (Kisauni) in good time to catch Precision Air at 10:15hrs to Dar-es-Salaam. This flight arrives in Dar-es-Salaam at 10:45hrs where you and the family will then connect to your international flight or leave the airport for your next destination. (Note international flight tickets not included). End of service!
