Walking with big game is only alowed for children over the age of 12 in the National parks for safety reasons, however there are numerous areas where younger children can walk safely. For eaxample the Eastern Arc Mountains provide spectacular forest hikes for walkers of all ages and abilities. There is a wide range of different hiking options ranging from a couple of hours hiking near a meandering stream in Amani Nature Reserve to a three day hike to the top of Mwanihana Mountain in the Udzungwas. We also arrange hike up Mt Meru, mt kilimanjaro and the active volcano Oldonyo Lengai.

Amani Nature Reserve East Usambara

With a mixture of tea plantations and ancient forest complimented by a cool climate Amani is an ideal place to bring the family for a relaxing break. There are a range of hiking trails to suit all abilities and even some spectacular night walks for irridescent tree frogs and superb endemic chameleons. Acommodation in Amani is based at Emau Hill with either camping or family cottages available. There is also the option of visiting the local butterfly project.

The Udzungwa Mountains National Park

Udzungwa is a primate park with nemuerous speies of monkey including the endemic Iringa Red Colobus and Sanje mangeby. Hikes range in difficulty from easy day walks to tough 4 day treks. There is a spectacualr 180m waterfall to be climbed which has plunge pools suitable for swimming. Udzungwa is a favourite with children of all ages.
